自動詞とは

動詞は自動詞と他動詞に分けることが出来ます。自動詞は、直接目的語を必要とせずに単独で文を形成する動詞です。自動詞は主語が行為を行うだけで、それが誰かに影響を及ぼすことなく、文が成り立ちます。分かりづらいかもしれませんので、例文を見てください。

自動詞の例文

The bird flies.：鳥は飛びます。

The sun rises.：太陽が昇ります。

補足説明

これらの例文は、主語が動詞の行動（飛ぶ、昇る、眠るなど）を行い、目的語や他の要素を使用せずに文を構成しています。自動詞は通常、主語と動詞だけで文を構成し、動作が完結します。第５文型のSV型に該当します。また、副詞を使って下のような文章を作ることも出来ます。

The bird flies gracefully.：鳥は優雅に飛びます。

The sun rises slowly.：太陽はゆっくり昇ります。

これらも第５文型のSV型に該当します。
