冠詞とは

冠詞は名詞の前におかれる”a”、”an”、”the”のことです。数えられる名詞が一つある場合には、”a”または”an”がつきます。後ろに続く単語の最初の文字が子音の時には”a”がつき、母音の時には”an”がつきます。また、みんなが知っている特定の名詞を指している場合や、ある文脈で既に触れられた名詞の前には”the” がつきます。具体的には、聞き手がその名詞について既に知っている場合や、特定のものや事物を指している場合に使います。

冠詞の例文

I have a dog.：私は（１匹）犬を飼っています。

He holds an umbrella.：彼は（一本）傘をかかえています。

The sun rises.：太陽が昇る。

補足説明

複数形の名詞にも "the" を使うことがあります。これは特定の複数の名詞を指す場合や、ある一群の中から特定のものを指している場合に使います。例えば、”I saw the cats in the garden.”：「私は庭でその猫たちを見ました」では、特定の庭にいた特定の猫たちを指しています。
