仮定法 (仮定法過去完了)とは

仮定法は、名前の通り仮定の話をするときに使われます。仮定法過去は、現在の仮定の話を表現しますが、仮定法過去完了は、「あの時に●●だったらな」と過去の仮定の話を表現します。また、基本的な仮定法過去完了は仮定法過去と同様に、①文章の頭に「もし〜なら」を意味する”If”を用いて、②動詞を過去より1つ前の時制を使います。過去より1つ前の時制とは、過去の仮定の話をする場合には大過去（過去完了形）を使います。仮定法は現実から離れた話をするので、時制も現在から離れた形を使います。仮定法の文章は「もし〜なら、〜だろう」という形で、前半と後半の部分に分かれますが、仮定を用いない方の文章には”助動詞の過去 + have + 過去分詞”の形が使われます。

仮定法 (仮定法過去完了)の例文

If they had studied harder, they would have passed the exam.：もし彼らがもっと一生懸命勉強していたなら、試験に合格していただろう。

If I had known you were in town, I should have invited you to the party.：もし君が町にいることを知っていたなら、パーティに招待すべきだったのに。

If they had arrived earlier, they might have caught the last train.：もし彼らがもっと早く着いていたなら、最終電車に間に合ったかもしれない。

If it had been warmer yesterday, we could have gone for a hike.：もし昨日暖かかったなら、ハイキングに行けただろう。
